Episode 8 – Be On The Lookout For Clues


Hello and welcome to the show!  Today I want to ask you a question.  And the question is, “Who has already done what you want to do?”  One of the things about living in this wonderful world of opportunity and abundance is that everything you want to do has already been done by somebody else.  It doesn’t matter whether it’s running a marathon, becoming financially independent, selling their business for millions, or losing weight, someone has already done it before you and has left CLUES. 

The clues they left could be in the form of programs, seminars, audiobooks, videos, and workshops.

So if you want to have a better relationship with your spouse, there are so many books you can read on the subject, for example, John Gray’s “Men are From Mars and Women are from Venus”. Or you might want to attend a couples workshop and research seminars on the subject. 

For virtually anything that you want to accomplish, there are literally mountains of information such as books and courses on how to do it.  Another option is to call people who have successfully done what you want to do and who are available as consultants, teachers, mentors, and facilitators, people in the industry that you want to get into.  You’ve just got to get out there and find them.

Now there are three ways you can do it, you can do some research on the internet for a coach, a manual an audio program, a book or a teacher to help you achieve one of your goals.

The second way is to seek out someone and ask if you can interview him or her on how you should take the next step.

Thirdly ask someone if you can shadow them for a day and watch them work.  You could even offer to be a volunteer, or their assistant or an intern.

I was having a chat with one of my clients recently who mentioned that they always wanted to open their own IT-based business from home because his skills in cybersecurity were quite sought after and he was a little disillusioned where he currently working.  So I asked him, well what steps are you taking at the moment to get that to happen?  He said,” well nothing really, I really don’t know where to start”.  So I suggested that he offer to take another business owner in the same industry out for dinner and ask them lots of questions about how they got started and how they left their 9-5 job.  “Wow you can do that?” he said.  You most certainly can I said, in fact, you have probably already thought of approaching an expert but you rejected the idea because of these thoughts:

Why would someone take the time to tell me how they did it?

Why would they teach me and create their own competition?

If you’re anything like my client, you need to banish those thoughts right now.  Because people love to talk about what they do and how they built their business and how they reached their ultimate goals.  But unfortunately, like most people, my client didn’t take advantage of all the resources that are available to all of us.  But why?

There are several reasons.  Our parents didn’t do it, our friends aren’t doing it.  It’s inconvenient because you have to drive across to the other side of town to do it, its taking time away from your television, family, and friends. You are afraid to take the risk in case you get rejected, so therefore you are afraid to ask.  It’s a new way of doing things and moving forward and for that reason, change, even when it is in our best interest, is uncomfortable.

So take some time to think about what I have said today and remember times when you could have just asked someone for some advice or even a time when you did, and you were so glad you did because it really created a sense of awareness for you.

So off you go, get out there and get all the info you need to get to where you want to be.

“Long ago, I realised that success leaves clues and that people who produce outstanding results do specific things to create those results.  I believed that if I precisely duplicated the actions of others, I could reproduce the same quality of results that they had.”


So think about that the next time you have an idea and you really want to go with it.  There are plenty of people out there you can approach and that really want to help you, while they brag at the same time. Lol
